Oak Management Pathway
					Step 3.2: Permits & Equipment
What permits and equipment are needed?
Before shovel meets dirt, you’ll want to make sure you have all the tools and permits necessary to carry out your project.
Permits
Some actions, especially herbicide applications or deploying prescribed fire, may require specific training or certifications. Talk to your local conservation district, ODF, or DNR about permitting, or the Columbia River Gorge Commission if you are operating in the Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area. For prescribed fire, there may be a local Prescribed Burn Association who can help you. The following links can get you started with permitting:

Equipment
Having the right tool for the job can make all the difference. While equipment can be expensive, there are opportunities to rent, contract, or even check out tools and equipment for restoration projects. You can read about some pros and cons of different tools and methods in our management guidance pages about trees, fire, and understory plants.
