Oak Observations March 2024
Have you seen the new signage at one of our favorite oaky hiking spots, Lyle Cherry Orchard? This new interpretive material is a wonderful way to learn more about local oak habitat.
The new bilingual, educational trail signage at Lyle Cherry Orchard is the first on a Friends of the Columbia Gorge preserve. The seven interpretive panels spanning the seven-mile trail system offer insight into the rich history of the preserve and the Columbia Gorge as a whole through multimedia content focusing on Indigenous knowledge of the Gorge, wildfire ecology, geological history, and more.
They are hosting an event next Tuesday at Lyle Cherry Orchard to unveil the new signage. Register here!
The QR codes on the signs lead to video content, allowing trailgoers to deepen their learning.
When we know a place, when we can know and name our local flora and fauna, our love for them grows. This spring, we hope you will take advantage of opportunities like this to engage with the beautiful oak habitats that make our home so special. And give a shout out to Friends of the Columbia Gorge for this exciting new resource!
